Educational Psychology

Part of Knowsley's Local Offer (KLO)

The Educational Psychology Service is committed to facilitating and supporting improved educational, social, personal and community outcomes for children and young people in Knowsley. Educational Psychologists work with individuals, groups and at the whole school/system level. We work with children and young people from the ages of 0-25 and offer support to staff and families. All of the Educational Psychologists’ work is based on psychological theory, which places emphasis on understanding the personal perspective of the individual and identifies mechanisms and systems that could facilitate positive change.

If an individual’s needs are judged to be very significant then we will be involved in a Statutory Assessment that may finally contribute to the provision of an Education Health Care plan (EHCP).

Eligibility criteria to use theservice?

The majority of requests for our service come from schools and educational settings in Knowsley; however, we also work with children and young people in out of borough settings if they have an Education Health Care Plan.

Currently we accept referrals directly from any educational setting in the Local Authority. These request forms are usually completed by the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) with the parent/carer. The needs and presenting issues are detailed on the form and we require the consent of parents by means of a signature on the form before we can begin any direct work with children or young people.
