SEND Policy

St Columba’s Catholic Primary School is one of two schools in the parish of St. Columba and St John Fisher parish and educates children from the age of 3 to 11 years. Children can begin in the Nursery class after reaching their third birthday and can attend on a half-day basis from 9.00am till 12.00 noon. Children are admitted to our Reception class in the September of the school year in which they reach their fifth birthday. We currently offer 39 places in our Nursery class and our admission number for our Reception class is 30.  The school is popular and can be oversubscribed.

Our mission statement is: Holding hands with Jesus as we love, learn and grow together.’

We use this mission to support the vision that we have for the children, staff and families in our school. The children are at the heart of all that we do.

This vision is: Tapping into Talent, Breaking Down Barriers, Daring to Dream.

At St Columba’s Catholic Primary School we expect everyone including staff, children and parents to aim to follow this mission and vision in ensuring the best possible outcomes for our children.

We believe we can offer all pupils a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities, which will enhance their educational and social development. After-school clubs include; Choir, Cookery, Dance and a range of Sports Clubs throughout the year. This ensures that no talent will go unrecognised.

Your child will benefit immensely from their time spent at St Columba and we hope that as parents you too can feel part of our school community. We believe parents have an important role to play in the education of their children. Parents are encouraged to become involved in school life through a variety of ways. We have a designated Parent Mentor and Learning Mentor who will help you, and your child, to work with us breaking down any barriers.

You are welcome to make an appointment to see the Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher at any time during the school year. The Headteacher of the school is Miss Evans and the Deputy Headteacher is Mrs Lewis.
