Do you need a screen reader?

A screen reader will read the text on a web page aloud to you so that you can hear it instead of having to see and read it.  This website has been created to work well with all modern screen readers.

Here are some screen readers you could use:

NVDA - free to use and works on all versions of MS Windows.

Chrome Vox - free to use and works in Google's Chrome browser on all operating systems.

Apple VoiceOver - free and included as part of OS X.

BBC Accesibility Guidance

The BBC provides detailed information on how to make your computer speak text aloud.

Please note that Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council does not recommend any of these screen readers, there are others available, both free and paid for.  It is a personal choice which one is best for you.
