Children with special educational needs or disabilities may be eligible for assistance with travel between home and school.

The Council’s statutory duty
There are a range of statutory obligations which the Council must meet, outlined in the Department for Education’s Home to School Travel and Transport Guide (2024). Anything above these obligations is discretionary and included within the Home to School Transport Policy.

If you would like a travel pass and you receive DLA or have an you can apply for a travel pass through Merseytravel, which allows travel 24 hours a day 7 days a week, throughout the whole year, on buses, trains and ferries.

If you do not meet the criteria above, or the criteria above does not apply, depending on your circumstances, you can get help meeting the cost of your child travelling to school.
